BIOGRAPHY

Hugh Smithies is the Manager of Geoscience Mapping and Mineral Systems at the Geological Survey of Western Australia. Over three decades, he has advanced understanding of the region’s Archean and Proterozoic evolution, applying geochemistry to unlock the complexities of WA’s lithosphere.

Hugh’s current focus explores how magma processes that access deep, metal-rich mantle lithosphere along crustal structures can inform mineral system studies. His work integrates geological insights that support exploration and resource development across Western Australia.
